While PET and HDPE are more widely accepted by recycling facilities, others like PVC and polystyrene are less commonly recycled due to their chemical properties and limited economic return.

Traditional recycling, often referred to as mechanical recycling, involves washing, shredding, and melting plastic waste to create new products. However, this process degrades material quality over time and often limits the types of plastics that can be reused. Emerging technologies such as chemical recycling offer promising alternatives.
