Types of Press Fit Bronze Tee Fittings

The most widely used type is the equal press fit bronze tee. In this configuration, all three outlets share the same nominal diameter and press-fit connection. Equal tees are typically used when the main line and branch line require identical flow capacity. They support straightforward pipe routing and are common in distribution networks where balanced flow is needed.

Another common type is the reducing press fit bronze tee. This tee features one or more outlets with a smaller diameter than the main run. Reducing tees are used when branching off to a secondary line with lower flow demand, such as a fixture supply or auxiliary loop. By integrating size reduction into the fitting, they help minimize additional adapters and simplify installation.

A third category includes transition press fit bronze tees. These fittings combine press-fit connections with other interface types, such as male or female threads. Transition tees are used to connect press-fit piping to threaded valves, gauges, or legacy components. They allow modern press systems to integrate with existing infrastructure without extensive modification.

Some manufacturers also offer specialized press fit tees, such as tees with extended branches or reinforced bodies for specific layout or support requirements. While less common, these variations address space constraints or alignment needs in complex installations.

Press fit bronze tees are available in several standard typesequal, reducing, and transitioneach serving a defined role in piping systems. Selecting the appropriate type supports orderly installation, functional flow distribution, and system compatibility.

The press-connect joining method (sometimes called press-fit) was patented in Europe in the late 1950s and continues to be used successfully there. The method and associated fittings and tools were introduced in the United States in the late 1990s. Since then, there has been growing acceptance, and those using the method experience excellent results.

Press-connect joining takes advantage of copper or copper alloy"s excellent malleability and its proven increased strength when cold worked. The joints rely on the sealing capability of a special fitting that contains an elastomeric gasket or seal (such as EPDM) and the proper use of an approved pressing tool and jaws.
