Forza Horizon 6 officially launches on May 19, 2026, and the buzz around handheld performance is real. The ASUS ROG Ally, including both the original Z1 Extreme model and the newer Xbox Ally X, is shaping up to be a solid option for players who want smooth racing on the go. Early reports and official info suggest the game is highly optimized for handhelds, with features like AMD FSR 4 and Microsoft’s Auto Super Resolution (Auto SR) helping maintain high frame rates without sacrificing visuals.

ROG Ally Performance Estimates

Here’s what to expect on the ROG Ally at 1080p:

Target Performance: 60 FPS on Low to Medium settings.
Upscaling with FSR/Auto SR: Allows you to enjoy higher visual fidelity, sometimes approaching 1440p-like detail, while keeping frame rates smooth.
Xbox Ally X Advantage: The newer Z2 Extreme chip boosts performance and efficiency, often hitting 40+ FPS on higher settings—well above the baseline Steam Deck experience.

Even in busy open-world areas like Japan-inspired Tokyo city streets, the Ally maintains solid playability thanks to these optimizations.

Key Handheld Optimizations

Native Support: Playground Games confirmed the ROG Ally and Steam Deck are fully supported on Day 1.
Auto Super Resolution (Auto SR): Especially useful for the Ally X, Auto SR improves frame rates without noticeable sharpness loss—perfect for larger displays or docking.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR): The ROG Ally’s VRR screen smooths out dips between 40 and 60 FPS, keeping driving in crowded areas or at high speeds feeling fluid.

Forza Horizon 6 runs impressively on the ROG Ally. Whether you’re hitting tight mountain passes, drifting through neon-lit streets, or racing across open highways, the handheld offers a strong 1080p experience with flexible upscaling options. The Ally X takes it a step further, delivering higher frame rates and efficiency, making it one of the most portable yet capable ways to enjoy Japan’s vibrant open world.
