Hall of Fame Prep for MLB The Show 26 | U4GM Tips

There's a moment in upper Ranked Seasons when you miss one spot by an inch, watch Yordan Alvarez turn on it, and already know the ball is gone before the camera moves. Post-All-Star rosters have made that feeling common. Before spending MLB 26 stubs on the next shiny 99, check whether your pitching staff can survive nine hitters with real power. MVP Cody Bellinger is just as annoying for a different reason-he can punish bad matchups from either side and doesn't need a meatball to do damage.

Build the Bullpen Before the Drop

The next National Baseball Hall of Fame class looks close based on the usual seasonal rhythm, so don't lock yourself into a rigid roster this week. Keep room for new cards and make every current bullpen slot earn it. Game Update 14 changed what hitters can do on the same-handed outer third, which means your old "just live away" plan needs a rewrite.

  1. Carry usable left-handed and right-handed relievers instead of loading up on one side.
  2. Put Outlier arms in spots where you need a strikeout, not just because the card has a big number.
  3. Use pitchers with Bear Down when reduced PAR makes late-inning command feel slippery.
  4. Before queuing, check that each reliever has one pitch for the hands and one pitch that can finish below the zone.

The Outer-Third Trap

On paper, the Update 14 adjustment should make same-handed at-bats more balanced. A hitter can cover the outer third better, so the obvious answer is to stay inside and avoid that improved PCI area. Most players take that idea too far. They fire high sinkers inside every count, then wonder why a patient opponent starts leaning on the pitch and launches the third one 470 feet.

Work in a sequence instead. Open with a high sinker or cutter near the hands when the hitter is clearly hunting a pull-side launch angle. If they begin cheating inside, bury the changeup below the zone-especially with two strikes. That's where players overcompensating for the outer-third buff tend to roll over. Save the up-and-in Outlier fastball for a hitter who has shown he's waiting on soft stuff. It can freeze someone. It can also become a souvenir. Fair enough.

Velocity Isn't Your Whole Plan

High sinkers and cutters are the safer answer against the new wall of max-power cards because they ruin early swings and jam the barrel. Low changeups are better when the opponent is trying to prove they can cover away. Outlier heat up and in sits between those two choices. It tests reaction time, but it carries the biggest punishment if your release leaks toward the middle. Against Alvarez, protect the inner half first. Against Bellinger, respect both sides of the plate and don't hand him the same look twice.

Three Checks Before Your Next Game

Players keep asking whether they should buy Hall of Fame cards immediately or rebuild now. Don't do either blindly. First, make sure your bullpen has both-handed answers; second, identify the relievers with Outlier or Bear Down; third, leave enough flexibility for the incoming class. If you're browsing cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs, use that room to fill a real weakness, not to replace a hitter who already mashes.
