If a mobile team identifies severe hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, or another condition that requires continued care, the patient needs somewhere to go next.
The mobile service should connect with local clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, referral hospitals, and specialists. In that way, mobility becomes part of a healthcare network rather than a temporary outreach activity.
Reliable Water and Sanitation Cannot Be Treated as Extras
Clean water is basic medical infrastructure.
Healthcare workers need it for handwashing, cleaning, infection control, patient care, toilets, and many medical procedures. Some treatments have much stricter water requirements.
The latest available regional estimates from the WHO and UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme show how serious this challenge remains. In 2023, only about 60% of healthcare facilities in sub-Saharan Africa had basic water services based on countries with sufficient data for the regional estimate.
The sanitation picture was even more concerning. The same research estimated that only 22% of healthcare facilities in sub-Saharan Africa had basic sanitation services where enough country data were available.
Basic hygiene service coverage was estimated at 34%.

NGOs should calculate expected power demand before choosing the system. They should also plan for battery replacement, technical maintenance, spare parts, and local repair capacity.
