Electronics now sit at the center of how a vehicle is built, driven and sold. They run safety systems, battery management, infotainment and driver assistance. According to Grand View Research, this shift is turning automotive electronics into one of the fastest-expanding segments of the auto industry.

Core Market Dimensions & Projections

The global automotive electronics market was valued at USD 262.60 billion in 2023. It is projected to reach USD 468.17 billion by 2030, a CAGR of 8.8% from 2024 to 2030. The 2024 starting point is estimated at USD 283.02 billion.

Several segments stand out:

  • Component: Current-carrying devices (switches, fuses, connectors and wiring harnesses) led in 2023 with a 40.2% share. Sensors are expected to post the fastest growth, as vehicles become more connected and safety-focused.
  • Application: Safety systems held the largest revenue share in 2023. ADAS is forecast to grow at the highest CAGR through 2030.
  • Sales channel: OEMs led in 2023, since buyers prefer genuine, durable parts built into the vehicle. The aftermarket is expected to grow steadily as vehicles age and repair options become more affordable.

The industry is at a medium growth stage but accelerating. Partnerships and new product launches are common among suppliers such as Bosch, Continental, DENSO, ZF, Infineon and Visteon, as they seek access to technology and wider regional reach.

Regional Market Share

Asia Pacific was the largest market in 2023 with a 41.4% share. Rising consumer purchasing power, growing awareness of safety features and a strong semiconductor and power-electronics supply base all contribute. Automakers have also moved production to developing economies in the region.

  • China accounted for 51.3% of Asia Pacific revenue in 2023. NEV incentives and heavy investment in autonomous driving are lifting demand for sensors, LiDAR, radar and AI-based systems.
  • India is forecast to grow at an 8.7% CAGR through 2030, driven by infotainment, navigation and ADAS adoption.
  • Japan is supported by EV tax incentives and subsidies, along with a government target for EVs to make up 50% of new car sales by 2030.

North America is expected to grow at a considerable rate. The U.S. is forecast to expand at a 9.9% CAGR, helped by the shift toward connected cars that rely on sophisticated in-vehicle electronics.

Europe was valued at USD 65.02 billion in 2023. Demand for smartphone integration, navigation and infotainment is high. Germany is projected to grow at a 6.7% CAGR. The U.K. held 13.1% of the European market.

Middle East & Africa is anticipated to reach USD 17.44 billion by 2030, as demand rises for connected cars with infotainment, ADAS and V2V/V2I communication.

Primary Drivers

  • Safety technology adoption. Features such as automatic emergency braking, airbags, parking assistance and lane departure warning are becoming standard as the industry works to reduce road accidents. Emergency call systems, alcohol ignition interlocks and accident data recorders add to this.
  • Electric vehicle growth. As buyers move from combustion to electric vehicles, demand is rising for battery management systems and electric powertrain electronics.
  • Government regulation and incentives. Safety mandates push automakers to add electronics. In China and Europe, NCAP programs call for advanced active and passive safety systems. India has opened specific low-frequency bands for radar-based ADAS. China's rules target lower energy consumption and higher NEV sales.
  • Connectivity and autonomy. IoT, AI and cloud networking, together with interest in self-driving and connected vehicles, are expanding the electronics content per vehicle.

Key Restraints and Challenges

The report does not set out a dedicated restraints section, but it flags several pressures:

  • Design complexity. Electronics are deeply integrated into vehicles, so replacing or upgrading them can force design modifications. Rising complexity also limits aftermarket options.
  • Component consolidation. Newer technology can combine the functions of several electronic units into one, which may reduce the average number of components per vehicle.
  • Regulatory compliance. Authorities are scrutinizing electronics for crashworthiness, fire safety and signaling and control compliance. Growing concern over greenhouse gas emissions is also driving rules that favor energy-efficient, low-emission components, which can raise development and compliance demands for suppliers.

The Road Ahead

With safety mandates tightening, EV adoption climbing and connected features becoming standard, automotive electronics looks set for sustained, regionally diverse growth through 2030. Suppliers and OEMs that invest in sensors, ADAS and EV-ready electronics are best placed to benefit.
