Three of the four recounts have been completed and the PNM has taken Cocoyea/Tarouba. After the recount, the UNC candidate Shane Samlal received one more vote as the Opposition finished with 1162 votes while the PNM won the electoral district with 1207 votes.

Meanwhile, the UNC took Marabella South/Vistabella. Its candidate Sasha Tricia Ali received one less vote as the UNC totaled 884 votes to the PNM's 873.

Mayaro North was won by the PNM with 741 votes. The PNM candidate Ryan Stewart received one less vote while UNC candidate Kristen Thaddeus Townsand received two less votes. The UNC finished with 720 votes while the PEP had 43.

The EBC says recounts in the remaining eleven electoral districts are on-going.

A marijuana plantation in the northern province of Aceh was set alight by
Indonesian authorities on Wednesday after it was discovered by drones.

A joint team of the National Narcotic Agency and the National Research and Innovation Agency detected 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of land with an estimated 21,100 cannabis plants ready for harvest using drones. This according to Wayan Sugiri, the deputy for eradication at the National Narcotic Agency. He said more than 150 officers from the police, customs and BNN were deployed to uproot the 20 tons of marijuana for burning.

“This is a form of the government’s firmness against illegal drugs and their circulation,” Sugiri said. The burning was the fifth this year, he said. In March, authorities burned 43 hectares (106 acres) with an estimated 190,000 marijuana plants.

$𝟏.𝟔𝐌 𝐈𝐍 ‘𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃’ 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐉𝐔𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐒𝐄𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐓 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐘

Hybrid marijuana worth approximately $1.6 million was seized by officers of a Specialist Unit within the Ministry of National Security and the Customs and Excise Division, at a warehouse in the Point Lisas district on Tuesday.

The drugs which originated from Canada have a total weight of 6.48 Kilogrammes. The seizure is as a result of intelligence-based profiling, in keeping with the mandate of the Unit, with respect to Border Management and Protection.

Through diligent police work, officers identified a package being imported into Trinidad from Canada and coordinated an operation
with officials of the Customs and Excise Division.

The exercise, which was conducted on Tuesday 15th August, 2023, resulted in the seizure of a package which contained two speaker Boxes. Checks of the boxes resulted in a quantity of marijuana with the
markings of different flavors.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter with the assistance of Canadian authorities while the Special Investigations Unit and Customs will continue to pursue local lines of enquiry, with a view to dismantling the importation of illicit drugs and other contraband over our borders.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 12-year-old Jayda Mc Leod.

JAYDA, of Trincity, was last seen on August 4th and reported missing to the Arouca Police Station on August 14th. She is of African descent, five feet, seven inches tall, of medium build, and brown in complexion with a black braided hairstyle.

She was last seen wearing a grey and white striped top, blue- coloured mid-length jeans and a pair of black slippers.

42-year-old Damian Dookram of Ebeo Trace, Manzanilla is also missing.

He was last seen on August 13th and reported missing to the Manzanilla Police Station, on August 14th. He is of African descent, five feet, eleven inches tall, and is slim built. He is brown in complexion with a Rastafarian hair style.

Damian was last seen wearing dark-coloured three-quarter length trousers, a black t-shirt and a pair of black Clarks boots.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jayda Mc Leod and Damian Dookram is asked to contact the police at 555, 999, 911, or call any police station.

KIMBERLY, of Balmain, Couva, was last seen around 10 pm on August 10th and reported missing to the Couva Police Station around 2 am on August 11th, 2023.

She is of East Indian descent, of slim build, brown in complexion, with brown eyes, a small mouth, rounded chin and a round face. She was last seen wearing a blue jeans and a black t-shirt.

𝟐 𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃, 𝟑 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐒 𝐒𝐄𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃
Two persons were arrested while three firearms, one magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition were seized by officers, during anti-crime exercises in various policing districts on Wednesday.

In the Southern Division on August 9th, one man from Indian Walk was arrested and a pistol was seized in the Princes Town district. Meanwhile, a revolver was found in a dumpster along Bayshore in Marabella, by officers of the Southern Division Task Force.

Also on that day, in the Western Division, a search warrant was executed at an Abbe Poujade Street, Carenage residence, where one man was arrested and charged in connection with the find of a Glock 19 firearm with an extended magazine and 13 rounds of ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.

Three persons have appeared in court jointly charged with Demanding Money by Menace from a D’Abadie man.

Joel Patrick, 24 and Lorenzo Julien, 24 both of Diego Martin and Kaviann Alexis, 26, of D’Abadie, appeared before the Arima First Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday 8th August.

Patrick was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 with surety, Julien pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to four years hard labour, while Alexis was denied bail and remanded into custody.
The matter was adjourned to September 5th, 2023.

A male victim reported to police that on July 12th, he allegedly received calls from a blocked number demanding that he pay the sum of $30,000 by the next day, or some harm will come to him or his family. The following day, he allegedly received more calls demanding that he pay the sum in five days’ time.

A report of the matter was made to the Arima Criminal.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is warning individuals against engaging in this type of activity, as they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

At least 36 people have died as fast-moving wildfires tear through the Hawaiian island of Maui, according to officials.

The deaths in the city of Lahaina, the island's main tourist destination, came as strong winds from a distant hurricane fanned the flames.

The fire is one of several ongoing blazes that have burnt entire neighborhood's to the ground. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes and a state of emergency has been declared.

A huge search and rescue operation is underway, with some people still unaccounted for.
"We barely made it out in time," Kamuela Kawaakoa, who fled to an evacuation shelter on Tuesday with his partner and six-year-old son, told the Associated Press. "It was so hard to sit there and just watch my town burn to ashes and not be able to do anything," he said. "I was helpless."

Five evacuation shelters have been opened on Maui and officials earlier said they were "overrun" with people. Firefighters are still battling active fires, with helicopters dropping water on the blazes from above.

Dozens of people have been injured since the fires began burning on Tuesday and hospitals on the island are treating patients for burns and smoke inhalation.
